Goals for Second Term
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
Expenditure reductions
- Implement fiscal Council priorities outlined on the November 20th Council retreat
a) Pursue local collection of sales tax, implement mandatory business licensing and audit program for sales tax collection
b) Create a citizen fiscal advisory committee
c) Analyze a possible reduction or elimination of sales tax contributions to the wastewater fund and possibly increase user fees
d) Provide increased and simplified financial reporting to the Council and public
- Analyze pros and cons of contracting some city services.
- Consider four day work weeks, furloughs and other overhead reduction ideas
- Pursue requesting price ranges in all Request for Proposals or Statement of Qualification solicitations for professional services
Revenue Generation
- Promote the creation of events that have a true return on the investment
- Encourage the development of a conference center
- Pursue the idea of establishing Sedona as a center for arts education
- Encourage expansion of Yavapai college and the Sedona medical center
- Pursue bed tax collections from “grand-fathered” time share developments
- Consider “out of the box” ideas such as licensing the City name and selling it as the “official Sedona endorsement” to manufacturers of sporting goods, etc. for marketing their products
ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP AND COMMUNITY ENHANCEMENT
- Identify energy efficiency and renewable energy as a public benefit that enhances the health, safety and general welfare of the community. Implement code changes that encourage energy conservation, alternative energy and the use of green building techniques
- Implement Council priorities outlined on the November 20th retreat
a) Create a citizen government academy
b) Increase Council training and orientation
c) Enhance Council/staff and community communications
- Establish a city priority to become dark sky compliant, bicycle friendly and fire-wise. Continue to work toward a National Scenic Area designation
- Create a master plan for our parks system
- Work toward developing an outdoor events center that has adequate parking to accommodate events like the Sedona Arts Fair, Jazz on the Rocks, etc. Possibly work with the Airport to achieve that goal.
- Create an alliance between our faith community and the city government to work collaboratively on community issues such as emergency management
- Continue to support educational and recreational programs that ensure the education, health, safety and welfare of our young people, their families and our elderly through our Parks and Recreation department and city funding. Reach out and connect to these groups to get input on what programs are needed.
