Sanford Bach Analysis on ADOT Board Vote on Lights
Gee wiz, the anti-light minions are jumping up and down with happiness because they think they slowed down the inevitable lighting up of 89A.
Sorry to dim your enthusiasm but this minor victory will be short lived. The ADOT upper brass was caught by surprise because they were not informed ahead of time there would be organized opposition. They will call their underlings. Their underlings will tell them their side of the story. The brass will listen and that will be the end of their hopes.
The Feb. 3 work study session will be a sham just like the 89A Safety Committee and all the council meetings where the lights were discussed or acted upon. The majority wanting them will simply brush themselves off, pick up their phones and do what they do best, which is manipulate those dumber than them.
Even Mr. Perez has to admit Councilwoman Scagnelli’s motion for the lights was a brilliant move on her part. It caught everyone off guard save ADOT and the other council members who were in on it. Masterful, I dare say.
That is why the anti-lightees don’t stand a snowflake’s chance in hell to win on this one. Sure, they will organize their campaign, present more facts and figures, walk into that meeting fully armed with data to support their position.
But they will be walking into a meeting where a decision has already been made. Just like their silly 89A Safety Committee, all the Mayor’s Ccmmittees. It doesn’t mean a thing what they say or try to prove. The decision has been made beforehand. ADOT brass will be convinced way before then to go with the lights. Council majority members will make personal calls. They will make their supporters send letters, tons of letters to the ADOT brass in support of the lights while the anti-lightees are trying to gather facts rather than doing the same.
Facts mean nothing here. What counts is getting ADOT board members in line first. They will reject the facts just like ADOT underlings have.
Even if the majority is swept out of office because of the lights, it will be too late. And kudos ADOT for sneaking up all those lights on S.R. 179 while everyone else was busy focusing on West Sedona. Boy, are those anti-lightees stupid. Stupid is as stupid does.
